WHO IS THIS FOR AND HOW IS THIS UNIQUE:

This training is open to all performing artists of any level and background - solo performers, directors, choreographers, or actors.  ACT WRITE: DIRECTORS FORUM gives you access to handpicked Guest Master Artists, each with their own special expertise, who will give interactive lessons and offer valuable insight.  Anthem Salgado and the ACT WRITE Masters will lead you through: 

- Writing

- Generating new ideas

- Performing original or borrowed monologues, scenes and stories of your choosing

- Exploring many fun interpretations and possibilities

The series culminates in an "Open Process" live performance, where artists may explore their work on the stage of San Francisco Public Library's posh Koret Auditorium, in conjunction with its Smithsonian Singgalot exhibit!

Denmo Ibrahim (director, co-creator and performer in The Mandala Olive Project at DIVAfest 2005) is co-artistic director of mugwumpin, a San Francisco performance group that she co-founded.  She has written Ecstasy | A Waterfable (Golden Thread Productions) which premiered at Thick House, and she has appeared in George Packer's Betrayed at Aurora Theatre.  Denmo exploded onto the Bay Area theater scene with her experimental new work Rabbit Causes Dog ("Best of Fringe", Best New Play Local", "Techies Choice Award"). She has co-created Bouge! which performed to sold out houses in Germanys' Bebersee Festival '04. As a performer, she has been nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Award (Boston) and a Joseph Jefferson Award (Chicago) for Best Actress in a Lead Role. She holds an M.F.A. in the Lecoq-Based: Actor Created Physical Theatre Program from Naropa University.

 

Evren Odcikin is a San Francisco-based director, dramaturg, and set designer. He returns to Brava Theater this season to direct Paula Vogel's The Oldest Profession.  His other Brava Theater productions include Bare Knuckle and his critically-acclaimed production of Machinal. His new play credits include the world premieres of Denmo Ibrahim's Ecstasy | A Waterfable (Golden Thread Productions), Sue Butler's The Greek Play (elastic future), Ignacio Zulueto's 22 Minutes Remaining (Golden Thread Productions), Jennifer Williams' Edge (Phoenix Arts Theatre), and the ensemble generated Heavy Days (Shotgun Theatre Lab).  In the Bay Area, he has also directed Blood Wedding (Shotgun Players), Road to Mecca (Secondwind), and Death of Yazdgerd (Darvag). He was the dramaturg on Mother Courage and Her Children, Owners, and Quills at Shotgun Players and Blue/Orange at Aurora Theatre Company.  He has directed numerous readings and workshops at Magic Theatre, TheatreFirst, Golden Thread Productions, and Bay Area Playwrights Festival and designed sets for Crowded Fire, mugwumpin, elastic future, Golden Thread Productions, and Shotgun Players.  Born and raised in Turkey, he is an associate artist with Golden Thread Productions, a founding company member with elastic future, and is a graduate of Princeton University.

Sean San José is the Theatre Program Director at Intersection for the Arts, and co-founder of Intersection's resident theatre company Campo Santo. He has created works with Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Jessica Hagedorn, Margo Hall, Tommy Shepherd, Octavio Solis, Dan Wolf, and more than 500 artists in his time at Intersection. He has created theatre works from the writings of Jimmy Santiago Baca, Dave Eggers, Denis Johnson, Ntozake Shange, Vendela Vida, and is currently developing their new piece from Junot Diaz’s Pulitzer Prize winning book The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.
